We have recently read on Gambero Rosso the rekindling of a long-standing debate, and we believe it is important to recall what our position was already 15 years ago.
This topic was discussed with Leonello Anello at the stand of “I Vini Biodinamici' at Vinitaly 2009, clearly and directly, while tasting more than 40 wines from various Italian regions produced with this method.
It was not business logic that pushed us to make that choice, and we clarified it in an open letter sent to our colleagues at Renaissance Italia on March 3rd, 2009:
“For more than 20 years, my work has been dedicated to spreading the biodynamic method. Many of you have encountered practical and professional biodynamics through my collaboration or my lectures, and you know what I am talking about and who I am.
Today I have agreed to take time away from my work in order to promote and defend the identity and ethical integrity of a way of producing that goes beyond economic considerations. I must do so through channels of communication that are not direct, person to person, as I am accustomed to.
The creation of the website www.viticolturabiodinamica.it
and the associated initiatives serve this purpose.
At the upcoming Vinitaly I will speak about biodynamic wine, precisely now that community production regulations are about to be released—regulations that are offensive to those who know how to make wine from grapes. I will speak while demonstrating through the wines themselves that the fearful hostility of those who try to discredit biodynamics is proof that the Method works.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Leonello Anello”
