February 11, 2019 – The 11th edition of the Modern Biodynamic Viticulture Conference, organized by Viticolturabiodinamica.it, took place at Sorgente del Vino Live in Piacenza. Titled “Copper in the Vineyard and Wine: What Is Said and What Is Kept Silent,” the event focused on the use of copper in plant protection and the ongoing debate at the European level regarding the continuation of its authorization.
This issue is of fundamental importance for Italian viticulture, which does not use synthetic chemicals. From the discussions among distinguished speakers coming from diverse professional and research backgrounds, a clear and profound contrast emerged between the toxicity data on copper based on theoretical models, simulations, and abstract extrapolations that currently support the new limits imposed by Brussels and the threat of its abolition, and the objective, empirical data collected through decades of field analyses and practical agricultural work, which completely refute the attributed risks.
The groundwork was laid for continued collaboration and research in this direction, with the hope that the debate on this crucial issue will proceed based on verified and objective realities.

“A Comparison of Scientific Paradigms” the Modern Biodynamic Viticulture Conference, has reached its 11th edition and will take place on Monday, February 11, 2019, in Piacenza, with a new feature: the event will be hosted by Sorgente del Vino Live 2019, the annual gathering focused on natural, territorial, and traditional wines, thanks to the collaboration with the Echofficine Association.
The conference will address the most urgent issue today for viticulture that avoids synthetic chemicals: the use of copper and the regulations governing it, with all their gaps and contradictions. The decision has been made to reopen the discussion in order to advance new proposals based on objective results, held in a symbolically significant location where those most directly involved in the ongoing debate gather: natural winemakers and attentive consumers.
This conference is part of a research journey which, since its first edition at the Villa Medicea of Cerreto Guidi with the support of the Regional Museum Polo of Tuscany, has been by design open and itinerant, maintaining its original premise by promoting over the years a meeting place for farmers, researchers, technicians, and all actors along the agricultural supply chain who daily face the challenge of finding the right balance between economic, environmental, and spiritual needs.
The ultimate goal is to reclaim a non-mechanistic vision of Nature that can guide future agricultural regulations and practices.
