VITICULTURE AND OENOLOGY: COMPARING CLASSICAL AND BIODYNAMIC METHODOLOGIES

POST CONFERENCE PRESS RELEASE

On Saturday, March 4th, with a great public turnout, the ninth edition of the annual appointment with the Modern Biodynamic Viticulture Conference “Scientific Paradigms Compared,” promoted and organized by Viticolturabiodinamica.it, was held.

The 9th Conference took place in Montespertoli, at the Wine Culture Center “I Lecci,” thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Montespertoli and the University of Florence – Gesaaf, the support of the Tourist Consortium Terre di Leonardo e Boccaccio e Colline del Chianti and Consiag, and with the patronage of the Tuscany Region.

At the 9th Conference, the results of scientific research conducted in the agronomic and oenological fields were presented, highlighting and confirming the reliability and excellence of the biodynamic method outcomes in vineyard management and winemaking. Classical winemaking techniques currently in use and innovative biodynamic techniques were compared, addressing the influence of terroir, grape variety, and winemaking techniques on the chemical and organoleptic characterization of wines.

The large audience had the opportunity to listen to highly interesting presentations, unfolding in a lively exchange, sometimes even with divergent viewpoints (this is the aim of the Conference—to compare and put in dialogue different scientific and methodological paradigms and approaches, allowing new acquisitions of knowledge). Speakers included researcher and agronomist Leonello ANELLO, founder of the modern biodynamic method in viticulture; university researchers and professors Mario BERTUCCIOLI, Lisa GRANCHI, Luigi MOIO, Monica PICCHI, and Fabrizio TORCHIO; and Margarethe CHAPELLE, the leading international figure in analytical research in the oenological field carried out with sensitive crystallization, a qualitative investigative method as fascinating as it is reliable, capable of providing 360-degree information on the health conditions of a vineyard and the qualities of a wine. Between the morning and afternoon sessions, a remarkable blind tasting of wines, all made from Sangiovese grapes and subject of the research, was expertly conducted by Sandro SANGIORGI.

The event, free of charge, represented a moment of high-level theoretical and technical insight and marked a further step in the journey started in 2009 by Leonello Anello and Rita Mulas with the first edition of the Conference held at the Medici Villa of Cerreto Guidi (which inaugurated the initiative and, thanks to the support of the Regional Museum Hub of Tuscany, was also the venue for subsequent editions).
