The Journey of Modern Biodynamics
Struck in the 1980s while studying at the Faculty of Agriculture in Florence by the “other” truths of agronomic science proposed by Masanobu Fukuoka, Leonello Anello eventually encountered the writings of Rudolf Steiner and began a path of study that led him, in 1991, to meet the Australian Alex Podolinsky, one of the fathers of modern biodynamics.
Anello will recount the evolution and practical application of modern biodynamics in viticulture and winemaking, offering a tasting of outstanding wines (both white and red) bearing the trademark “i vini biodinamici®.”
Video interview with Leonello Anello during the workshop “The Journey of Modern Biodynamics,” held at the Salone del Gusto in Turin on October 23rd, 2010
“I was asked to speak, through the wines, about myself , to tell my story, which is also the story of modern biodynamics. Some milestones in my professional journey have coincided with the milestones of biodynamics in Italy.”
With these words, Leonello Anello opened his Taste Workshop at the Salone del Gusto in Turin on October 23rd, 2010.
After recounting the key moments of his training — from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Florence (where, in the early 1980s, enrollment exceeded 600 students!) to his encounter with Masanobu Fukuoka, to the decisive discovery of Rudolf Steiner’s writings, and to his pivotal exchanges with Alex Podolinsky in 1991, 1993, and again in 1995 — he outlined the fundamental principles of the biodynamic method he has refined over more than twenty years of work in the vineyard and the cellar.
He began with its central premise:
“Biodynamics cannot be compared to any other form of agriculture, because it does not interact directly with the physical body of the plant.”
The following wines were presented during the Taste Workshop:
