The Path of Modern Biodynamics
Struck in the 1980s, as a student at the Faculty of Agriculture in Florence, by the “alternative” truths about agronomic science from Masanobu Fukuoka, Leonello Anello had a decisive encounter with the works of Rudolf Steiner and began a formative path that led him, in 1991, to meet Australian Alex Podolinsky, one of the pioneers of modern biodynamics. Anello will narrate the evolution and practical application of modern biodynamics in viticulture and winemaking, offering you a tasting of the excellent white and red wines branded as “i vini biodinamici®.”

“I was asked to speak about myself through my wines; to tell my story, which is also the story of modern biodynamics. Some milestones in my professional journey have coincided with key moments in the development of biodynamics in Italy.” This is how Leonello Anello opened his Laboratorio del Gusto at the Salone del Gusto in Turin on October 23, 2010.
After recounting the pivotal moments of his formation — from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Florence (which had over 600 students in the early ’80s!), to his encounter with Masanobu Fukuoka, to the fundamental discovery of Rudolf Steiner’s writings, and the decisive exchanges with Alex Podolinsky in 1991, 1993, and 1995 — he illustrated the core principles of the biodynamic method he has developed over more than twenty years of work in vineyard and winery.
He began with the key principle that:
“Biodynamics cannot be equated with any other form of agriculture because it does not interact directly with the physical body of the plant.”
